The term "premium e-liquid" gets thrown around so much these days that it has lost almost all of its original meaning. It's a term that people search for when they want to buy e-liquid, so sometimes it feels like little more than a keyword phrase that copywriters need to check off of the list in order to capture the most possible search engine traffic. If you search any e-liquid maker's website, you'll definitely find "premium e-liquid" mentioned somewhere. Some people jokingly refer to premium e-liquids as regular e-liquids with extra sweetener added. Others think that the term doesn't actually mean anything -- that e-liquid makers only use it to justify higher prices. Here at VCT, "premium e-liquid" isn't a term that we take lightly. In fact, it's part of our DNA. It's something that we consider every time we prepare to release a new e-liquid. Before we approve any e-liquid for production, we ask ourselves: Is this e-liquid absolutely the best that it can be? Until we can say "yes" to that question, we don't release the product -- and that's what premium e-liquid is all about.
Releasing a great e-liquid is a process that often requires months of work. We begin with a flavor concept, and then we evaluate the concept's viability. Is our idea entirely original, or has another e-liquid maker already done it? If the flavor already exists elsewhere, could we do it better? Once we've agreed that an e-liquid is worth creating, we enter the development phase. Even an e-liquid with a description that sounds simple -- a fruity cereal with milk, for example -- may contain more than a dozen different flavor concentrates in different proportions. Just creating a simple flavor note such as milk may require a combination of flavor compounds from different manufacturers. Once we've settled on the best flavor concentrates for a given e-liquid, we test the concentrates in different proportions until we get the best possible result. Have you ever wondered why a premium e-liquid often costs more than budget e-liquids? The higher cost doesn't always represent a simple desire to earn profit. Sometimes, an e-liquid can't even begin to earn a profit until it recoups thousands of dollars in R&D expenses -- and the more different flavor compounds an e-liquid contains, the more the e-liquid costs to produce.
If you've vaped for a while, you've probably noticed some significant differences between budget and premium e-liquid brands. A budget e-liquid tastes simple -- almost artificial, like a candy. The individual flavor notes don't quite form a cohesive whole. As we've already mentioned, a premium e-liquid often contains a combination of many different flavor compounds. Why is that? Although you might think that a milk flavor would simply taste like milk, that often isn't the case in practice. One flavor might capture the savory flavors of milk. Another flavor might have the perfect representation of milk's creamy notes. Still another flavor might capture milk's sweet side. If you can blend all of those flavors skillfully, you'll have a great e-liquid on your hands. When we say an e-liquid tastes like milk, cereal, ice cream or something else, we really mean it. If we release an e-liquid, it's because we believe that it represents its flavor description perfectly.
It is the responsibility of any premium e-liquid maker to understand that the vaping industry is a young market with tastes that are still evolving. It wasn't long ago that sweet e-liquids were rare, flavor combinations were simple and 30 ml bottles costing $20 and up were still the norm. In the years since, vapers realized that sweeter e-liquids actually taste really good. People also discovered RBAs and sub-ohm tanks and decided that $20 for a 30 ml bottle of e-liquid was really too much to spend for what was -- for some -- barely a day's supply of e-liquid. Today, premium e-liquid sells for a lower price per ml than ever -- because that's what the vaping community has demanded. Meeting the demands of the community --- while still delivering the best e-liquid on the market -- is our responsibility and pleasure as a top e-liquid maker. When vapers' tastes change in the future, we will continue to do what's necessary to keep our customer base happy.
